Chicago Area CVBs
Tourism is a major economic driver for communities across suburban Cook County, and strategic investment is fueling its continued growth. Through direct funding and support from Tourism Alive, five Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) are launching new initiatives and strengthening existing programs to attract visitors, generate local revenue and enhance travel experiences. From major sporting events to targeted marketing campaigns, these efforts are delivering measurable economic impact, supporting local job growth and showcasing the region’s diverse attractions.
Examples of programs to date include:
Chicago Southland
promoted and supported the Windy City Thunderbolts 2023 Frontier League All-Star Game and Skills Challenge in July 2023, generating increased awareness of the Southland area and delivering significant economic impact to its communities, winning the 2023 Economic Impact in Sports Tourism Award from Sports Destination Management.
Meet Chicago Northwest
tapped into the increased popularity of golf, putting together a multi-media golf campaign showcasing year-round golf attractions and award-winning golf courses. Targeting golfers across Southern Wisconsin and Chicagoland, the campaign brought in over 4,000 golfers and contributed to an increase of $1.8 million in hotel room revenue in July and August 2023.
Chicago’s North Shore
has been able to revive its group tour marketing efforts through expanded outreach, updated itineraries, and a proactive customer service program, resulting in an immediate increase in in bookings during its first year of activation.
Rosemont CVB

Visit Oak Park
is leveraging the resources to create a new domestic group tour strategy for the area, developing new Black History tours and investing in updated data and analytics on short-term rentals.
